Supported accommodation for young people

New Start Living is an organisation dedicated to helping young people aged 16-25 strive and prepare for independent living.

UASC Supported Living

When Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) first join NSL, we conduct an initial assessment which includes a “tailored support plan” and a comprehensive "Journey to the UK Assessment." This assessment is a crucial step in better understanding the unique support needs of each young person and identifying any traumas they may have experienced during their journey to the UK.

This specialised assessment helps us gain deeper insights into the UASC's past experiences and challenges, allowing us to tailor our support to their specific circumstances. It assists us in addressing any emotional or psychological traumas that may have occurred during their travel to the UK. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that supports their healing and integration.

At our homes we offer private, fully furnished, lockable rooms, along with shared facilities, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas. These homes are thoughtfully designed to be culturally appropriate, recognising the diverse backgrounds and needs of the young people we serve.

Our comprehensive support services include a dedicated key worker who provides one-on-one assistance. The key worker's primary role is to offer guidance, support, and mentoring, focusing on helping young individuals develop independent life skills, budget effectively, and foster personal growth. We also maintain a weekly progress report to closely monitor each UASC's journey.

In collaboration with Prospect Training Services and GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers), we work closely to provide a holistic support network for UASC. We priorities transparency and collaboration with these organizations, as well as other professionals, to ensure the well-being and success of the young individuals under our care.

Our tailored support encompasses a wide range of services:

  • Housing assistance
  • Health care registrations & assessments

The importance of NSL's success in supporting UASC integration into the UK cannot be overstated. It is a commitment to building a more inclusive, compassionate, and resilient society.
